Styled by STEM is excited to announce Lagoon Girls STEM Lab, a new 12-week environmental STEM program created in collaboration with the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) in Vero Beach.
Beginning October 4, girls ages 10–14 will spend Sunday afternoons exploring the Indian River Lagoon through hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math. Each session is designed to help participants learn like scientists, think like engineers, and grow as environmental stewards—all while building confidence, friendships, and leadership skills.
Program Details
- Dates: October 4–December 20, 2026
- Time: Sundays, 1:00–3:00 p.m.
- Ages: Girls ages 10–14
- Location: Environmental Learning Center, 255 Live Oak Drive, Vero Beach, Florida
- Cost: $20 per Sunday
- Scholarships: Available for qualifying students, including girls who receive free or reduced-price lunch
- High school volunteers: High school girls may register at no cost to assist and earn volunteer hours

A New STEM Adventure Every Sunday
No two Sundays will be the same. Girls will investigate real environmental questions and explore STEM topics connected to the lagoon, including:
- Water-quality testing and water chemistry
- Buoyancy, boats, waves, and currents
- Wildlife, habitats, and animal adaptations
- Plankton, food webs, and ecosystem health
- Guided kayak and pontoon-based investigations
- Aquaculture systems and sustainable solutions
- Mangroves, native plants, and habitat restoration
- Engineering solutions for local environmental challenges
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Lagoon Girls STEM Lab goes beyond science lessons. Participants will practice teamwork, leadership, communication, observation, and problem-solving while discovering STEM careers connected to Florida’s natural environment. Girls will also work toward a final research poster, engineering solution, or stewardship proposal to share during a culminating mini-showcase.
Full-term enrollment is recommended because skills, projects, and relationships will build from week to week.
